Reid - 1, Mommy - 0

Well, lesson learned. Last night, Matt called it, "Reid's Revenge." Man, do I feel like mom of the year! Back up to dinner time...I made a very easy, yummy, supposed to be kid-friendly meal (see recipe below), that I knew Reid would like. But, what does my little man do? Does not want to even taste it! So, I decided that he was probably old enough for me to start the rule of he has to at least taste dinner before deciding that he doesn't like it and that I am not fixing 2 meals. Basically he didn't eat dinner. Put him to bed, and that was fine. Fast forward to 11:30. I'm awakened by the gagging sounds of Lilly as she is throwing up in our bed - right next to me and on my pillow (yuck!!!) - and soon after Reid wakes up and starts crying (2 unfortunate, unrelated events). I wait about 10 minutes to see if he'll fall back asleep, he doesn't, so I go up and rock him, lay him back down, and all is fine. Until 12:30. This time I give it 30 minutes, and go up, and figure that the poor thing is probably hungry so I feed him an Earth's Best snack bar, rock him and put him back down. Again, good to go. Until 3:00. By this time, I am SO exhausted that I can't even think straight, and knowing there's nothing I can do, I let him cry it out. He eventually fell asleep (not sure how long he cried) and then woke up at 7:30. So, instead of me teaching him a lesson, he showed me the consequences of not giving him what he wants for dinner! Until he's old enough to understand when I explain to him the "rule," this mommy will be making her child whatever it is he wants for dinner!

Recipe:
Cheeseburger Casserole
1 or a little over pound of ground beef
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 bag frozen tator tots
Shredded cheese

Preheat oven to 350. Brown the meat; drain. Combine meat and soup in a 2 quart dish. Arrange tator tots in single layer over the mixture. Bake for 30 minutes. Add cheese and bake for another 10 minutes.

I serve this with a bag of the Steam Select frozen veggies (my new best friend - so easy!)

While I was cooking, Reid was playing with the pots/pans in the cabinet, and then decided that it made a good little spot just for him.

Don't you just love nights like that?! I feel your pain :) That recipe does sound good though...I think Matt and I will be trying that one!

My boys have not had dinner for 2 nights now. For now, I am sticking to my rule, eat it or do without! I may be posting a similar story very soon.
Sorry about your sleepless night.

The recipe sounds good and your intentions were great, but I agree that he does not understand yet. Hope your night is better tonight;)

I am going through this same thing right now! Carter used to be a piggy who would eat anything and now he shakes his head "no" before he even tries things! I feel like lately all he wants to eat is junk, (crackers, lil crunchies, chicken nuggets)but I usually give in because I feel like he needs to eat. Maybe this is just s stage...good luck!
